As the course progresses, we will post papers we find interesting or that we specifically mention in class.

  • The unreasonable effectiveness of mathematics in the natural sciences by Eugene Wigner in Communications in pure and applied mathematics, 1960, 13(1). This article gives an expansive view of the power of mathematics in studying the natural world.
  • Cell biology by the numbers. This book is a free and online version that attempts to provide a view of modern biology through the prism of biological numeracy. This book can be a great resource for many of the order-of-magnitude questions we will face in our approach to biology.
